Janine Gilmour
07/09/2020

Our SCGOPHCG Employee of the Month Award winner for July is Janine Gilmour, Senior Social Worker Oncology, SCGH.

Janine was nominated for this award by Kirsten Stewart, Clinical Nurse Specialist who said Janine is consistently dedicated to providing the best supportive care to cancer patients and her work ethic is exemplary.

Janine ensures the comfort, safety and provision of essentials that all patients deserve and is a very caring, kind and empathetic person who is attuned to the patients’ needs and how best to assist them without being intrusive.

Her nomination stated that Janine has a ‘can do’ attitude and will research all options to ensure she is offering the patient the best possible outcomes for their difficult and challenging circumstances. She has come up with solutions, at the last hour and when patients might have been left homeless, she has miraculously found accommodation.

Her problem solving skills and ability to reach out to community services, support groups and residential care options are vast.

During the early stages of the COVID 19 pandemic, when ex-pats were isolated in Perth and unable to fly back to their country of residence (in Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines), with no family in Perth, Janine was able to find short-term accommodation solutions, therefore reducing the stress levels of those cancer patients stranded in WA.

Janine demonstrates the NMHS values through her work by her supportive and caring approach towards each cancer patient. She is genuinely interested in every patient’s situation and seeks ways to alleviate their anxieties, by offering individualised practical solutions, which in turn empowers the patient and gives them hope, when the situation can appear desperate.

Janine’s Manager Clara Orton Senior Social Worker SCGH said Janine demonstrates an advanced practice level of clinical interventions. She has a calm, supportive and analytical approach resulting in thorough assessments and interventions and she also provides support and mentoring for other staff.

Congratulations Janine, thank you for living our values. You deserve this recognition and we commend you for your dedication and compassion.

Janine and her colleagues will be invited to a catered afternoon tea where she will be presented with a $150 gift voucher from sponsors.

A special thanks to our generous sponsors: HESTA, Paywise, Smartsalary and StatePlus.

If you've had a great experience with one of our staff members why not put them forward for an award? Next time you are onsite ask how you can submit a nomination.
