Cancer Centre outpatients
Volunteers in the Cancer Centre outpatient area play a vital role in helping patients feel welcomed, reassured and supported during what can be an emotionally challenging time.
As an outpatient volunteer in the Cancer Centre, you will provide comfort and compassionate support to patients and visitors attending for cancer treatment and appointments.
Responsibilities may include:
- greeting patients and families as they arrive for oncology appointments or treatments,
- assisting with check in processes or guiding patients to the correct clinic or waiting area,
- offering tea, coffee, or water to patients and carers during their wait,
- providing friendly conversation or quiet companionship to help reduce stress,
- supporting patients with mobility needs by arranging wheelchairs or escorting them to treatment areas,
- keeping waiting spaces tidy, comfortable, and welcoming,
- providing information about amenities such as restrooms, cafés, or transport services,
- alerting staff if a patient appears distressed, unwell, or in need of additional support, and
- sharing information about therapeutic services available through Solaris Care.
