Research Resources and Education

There are a wide variety of high-quality, free educational resources available for researchers at all stages of their careers. Some of these are listed below for SCGOPHCG staff who are undertaking research.

In addition to these resources, the staff within the Department of Research are available to provide advice on specific research and conduct education sessions upon request.

International Conference on Harmonisation Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP) certificate [every 3 years]

Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification in Australia ensures that clinical trials are conducted ethically, scientifically, and in compliance with regulatory standards. GCP guidelines, established by the International Council for Harmonisation, promote the protection of human subjects and the integrity of trial data. Certification typically involves training in trial protocols, informed consent, and data management, catering to researchers, sponsors, and clinical staff. GCP training is crucial for professionals involved in clinical research, as it enhances credibility and adherence to legal requirements, ultimately contributing to the quality and reliability of clinical studies.

Maintaining current GCP Certification is a mandatory requirement for all clinical trial investigators and clinical trial staff with significant delegated trial-related responsibilities. Current GCP certification must be filed in the study master file for all trial staff.

GCP training is also strongly recommended for all WA Health staff involved in the conduct of clinical research other than clinical trials.

GCP certification is valid for 3 years. Researchers whose certification is expired, or close to expiry, can complete the abbreviated Good Clinical Practice Refresher Course to renew their certification.

REDCap

WA Health supports the use of REDCap (external site) which is a secure web application for building and managing online surveys and databases. It is an internationally established model specifically set up to support online and offline data capture for research studies and operations. 

To register for a REDCap account please fill out the Registration form (external site). To be eligible for access you must have a current active Health Employee (HE) number and access to a WA Health email address linked to that number.
