Congratulations to our nursing award winners

We are proud to announce Fiona Irwin and Leo Wu as our 2024 Rotary Nurse of the Year award winners for Sir Charles Gairdner (SCGH) and Osborne Park Hospitals (OPH).

Congratulations also to OPH clinical nursing facilitator Miriam Sprange on winning the Lorraine Johnson Preceptor Award this week.

The annual events were held this week as part of our International Nurses Day celebrations.

The Rotary Nurse of the Year awards recognise nurses who have demonstrated innovation and excellence in health care by advancing the profession, building partnerships and making a difference in their area of practice.

Nominations were accepted from both the public and staff across three categories: graduate nursing, clinical practice and excellence in leadership with the overall winner selected from the category winners.

Fiona was nominated for her willingness to help other staff and dedication to providing patients with the best possible care. She is a well-respected and experienced nurse, having worked in many areas across SCGH, particularly in her speciality of aged care.

She was described as a role model who leads by example, always exuding a positive energy with a fantastic sense of humour and an unwavering desire to help others.

Leo, a clinical nurses and shift coordinator, was nominated for his ability to create a more positive and productive environment through his optimistic attitude, assured knowledge and proficient skills.

He is known for having has a great working-relationship with allied health, medical and support staff on the ward, which supports communication and discussion about patient needs.

The Lorraine Johnson Preceptor Award acknowledges and celebrates Sir Charles Gairdner Osborne Park Health Care Group nursing educators who go above and beyond in their duties.

Miriam was awarded for her passionate, honest and approachable nature as a clinical facilitator with her dedication to providing the best learning environment for her pupils truly amazing.

Congratulations to Fiona, Leo and Miriam as well as our other category winners and nominees. You are all fantastic advocates for nursing across our sites.

Thank you also to the Nedlands Rotary Club and Karrinyup Rotary for their ongoing support and sponsorship in recognising our outstanding nurses.
