BASIC – Basic Assessment and Support in ICU

Simulation CentreThis two-day course covers the essential elements of Intensive Care medicine, pitched at new doctors and nurses entering into critical care environments.

Topics covered include assessing seriously ill patients, airway management, managing respiratory failure, ventilation basics and strategies, haemodynamic monitoring and shock, trauma management, neurological emergencies, sepsis, nutrition, renal impairment and electrolyte disturbances, sedation and transport of the critically ill patient.

  • Round 1: Feb 8 and 9
  • Round 2: Mar 27 and 28
  • Round 3: June 13 and 14
  • Round 4: Aug 29 and 30
  • Round 5: Oct 31 and Nov 1

The ICU BASIC is hosted at the SCGH Simulation Centre but is run by the SCGH ICU Department.
