Odile Roberts, Senior Physiotherapist
31/03/2021

Congratulations to our February Employee of the Month Award winner, Odile Roberts, Senior Physiotherapist in the Day Therapy Unit at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

Odile was nominated for this award by Deputy Head of the Physiotherapy Department Bronwyn Kaiser, who said Odile has a genuine passion and enthusiasm for providing physiotherapy services to older patients to regain or maintain their independence and having a positive impact on their rehabilitation or recovery, as well as their quality of life.

Odile delivers her therapy treatment in a way that reflects both her immense knowledge but also her compassion, empathy and kindness – this was highlighted in a feedback letter recently received from one of her patients:

"I’m aware that while professional knowledge and skills are certainly important, effective therapeutic outcomes and application of them are achieved instrumentally through personal characteristics of practitioners – their personality, humanity and compassion."

These words in summation of the care the patient received from Odile were acknowledged by Hospital Executive, who said the patient’s feedback was a wonderful recognition of the skills, professionalism and humanity Odile showed this patient. Odile is humble in accepting this praise and see this as the standard she would like to meet for every patient.

Odile displays great alignment between her personal values and our NMHS values. She has a kind and gentle nature and cares strongly for her patients, advocating on their behalf for access to services and information and ensuring her treatments are holistic and in line with best practice evidence.

Odile demonstrates respect through treating people equitably, showing interest and acknowledgment of other cultures. Odile herself is not a first language English speaker, making her more aware of her communication style to ensure good understanding from her patients.

Working with older people, Odile displays great patience and gentle motivation to engage them in their physiotherapy programs. She is innovative in finding ways to overcome barriers, of note assisting her patients in engaging with Telehealth to ensure ongoing exercise maintenance and falls prevention during the COVID period. She endeavours to overcome barriers for her patients to exercise, ensuring they get both physical and mental benefits from her programs and interventions.

Odile displays integrity in her honesty, maintaining confidentiality and taking responsibility for her work. She is an asset to the physiotherapy department, our hospital and our patient group. Clearly, the judges were impressed and also agreed!

Congratulations Odile, you deserve this recognition!

Odile and her colleagues will celebrate at an afternoon tea where she will be presented with a $150 gift voucher from our sponsors.

A special thanks to our generous sponsors: HESTA, Paywise, Smartsalary and Aware Super.

If you've had a great experience with one of our staff members why not put them forward for an award? Next time you are onsite ask how you can submit a nomination.
