Congratulations Ellen Campbell, our September SCGH Employee of the Month Award winner

Meet our September SCGH Employee of the Month Award winner, Ellen Campbell, Outpatient Coordinator at the Cancer Centre.

Ellen was nominated for this award by Drs Peter Lau, Anne Long and Piyush Grover who all concur Ellen is a passionate, committed and values-driven person who has demonstrated outstanding leadership while navigating through challenges the COVID-19 outbreak presented to patients with cancer.

With her patients at the heart of everything she does, within a short time frame, Ellen collaborated to establish processes to switch to telehealth consultations. She also set up a service to support clinical staff to send prescriptions and investigations request forms to patients.

Ellen’s nominators say she has a “yes” attitude, always demonstrates “above the line” behaviour and is always on the lookout to improve the delivery of the Cancer Centre’s services. Ellen has worked hard, and smart, to develop a strong clerical team who deliver efficient, timely and effective clerical services across multiple disciplines, and has championed staff proficiency in the software system, MOSAIQ. This has required collaboration and innovation at many levels and has translated into improved workflow systems.

Ellen genuinely cares for staff and regularly checks in on their wellbeing and supports them in difficult times. She leads by example and often works “on the floor” to not only support staff, but also to understand and promote patient experience - as a result, Ellen has facilitated many changes to minimise patient waiting times and create more engaging waiting rooms.

Ellen lives the NMHS Values; she genuinely cares for staff and patient welfare and has championed multiple system changes to support this. Ellen is polite, friendly and respectful in her interactions with all stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and uses her assertive communication skills to respectfully navigate complex conflict resolution. Ellen is constantly identifying innovative ways to deliver patient care.

Congratulations Ellen, you deserve this recognition and we commend you for facilitating positive improvements in working relationships amongst staff from various specialities and disciplines to create a strong team that delivers quality care to patients with cancer.

Ellen and her colleagues will be invited to a catered afternoon tea where she will be presented with a $150 gift voucher from sponsors.

A special thanks to our generous sponsors: HESTA, Paywise, Smartsalary and Aware Super.

If you've had a great experience with one of our staff members why not put them forward for an award? Next time you are onsite ask how you can submit a nomination.
