Services We Offer

The Nutrition & Diet Therapy Department at SCGH provides a comprehensive dietetic service to all the clinical service units of the hospital. In-patients & Out-patients must be referred by the hospital medical officers.

Physical Location

The Nutrition & Diet Therapy Department at SCGH is located in A Block, on the 3rd Floor.

The Department is open from 8.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.

About Us

The Nutrition and Diet Therapy Department aims to provide excellence of service towards the promotion, maintenance and improvement of the nutritional status of SCGH patients.

Staff

The Nutrition & Diet Therapy Department at SCGH employs 9.8 Full Time equivalent dietitians, one dietary assistant, and a secretary/receptionist.

The positions include a Head of Department, and specialist dietitians for diabetes, renal & liver transplantation, Intensive Care Unit, adult cystic fibrosis, and cancer.

Other Activities

Education

Dietitians provide up-skilling and updating on nutritional and therapeutic aspects of management to: medical, nursing and allied health staff; food service staff e.g. menu assistants, hospital service assistants, and patient service assistants.

Dietitians are an integral part of the teaching focus of the hospital and are involved in the practical training and clinical assessment of 4th year Curtin University dietetic students.

Quality Improvement

Dietitians undertake quality improvement activities in various aspects of EQuIP

Catering Collaboration

Dietitians work closely with the Catering Department to ensure the nutritional quality of the menu.

Research

Dietitians participate in research as part of a multidisciplinary team, as required.

Employment

All dietitians must be eligible for membership of the Dietitians Association of Australia and the APD (Accredited Practising Dietitian) Programme.
