Our programs run across Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) and Osborne Park Hospital (OPH) with a comprehensive program run in collaboration with North Metropolitan Mental Health with four intakes throughout the year.

 

The SCGOPHCG graduate nurse programs

They offer many opportunities for you to gain nursing experience in a supported environment, acquire new knowledge, practice and consolidate evidence-based clinical skills, develop leadership potential and socialise into both the workplace and workforce.

SCGOPHCG General 12-month program (Enrolled & Registered Nurse)

This general program offers a diverse range of specialties encompassing the needs of patients during their health journey. The general program is split into two rotations of six months each and the experience can be at one site or set over both hospital sites. The General program is designed to transition graduates into a nursing specialty which interests them, the focus on General nursing is ideal for the consolidation of nursing within the hospital setting.

SCGOPHCG General and Mental health 12-month program (Enrolled & Registered Nurse)

This comprehensive program offers adult medical or surgical and mental health nursing experience. The comprehensive program is designed to factor in the growing needs of mental health experience within the general nursing environment, with one rotation being a general nursing ward and the second rotation being Mental health. The benefits of a six-month rotation at Grayland’s Hospital or the SCGH Mental Health Unit is to have greater understanding of the holistic view of patients over all health and wellbeing.

SCGOPHCG 12-month theatre specific programs for Registered nurses

The SCGOPHCG Theatre specific Graduate nurse program provides essential skills and knowledge in a supportive environment to assist graduates with an interest in operating theatre nursing progress towards achieving career goal.

SCGH – The 12-month program commences with four weeks of comprehensive and supported learning to enable safe integration into the department. A self-directed and reflective approach to all aspects of learning is encouraged and supported. Then three primary speciality rotations being Orthopaedic, General surgery and Plastics are facilitated throughout the year to ensure a diversity of exposure to the fundamentals of theatre nursing.

OPH – The 12-month program commences with four weeks of orientation period where the graduate is exposed to theatre and recovery nursing. Specialties and areas in which graduate nurses are exposed to include General surgery, Gynaecology, Obstetrics, Ear, Nose and Throat, Orthopaedics, Vascular and Urology. The experience is diverse with the knowledge gained in these specialties not just in the theatre setting but also within the recovery unit.
