Accommodation

The hospital has limited on-site hostel accommodation, available at a nightly rate for outpatients from country areas and for relatives visiting you from the country. If you or your family need this assistance, please contact the Social Work Department on 61 8 9346 4666. Please be aware that bookings are heavy.

AH Crawford Lodge

AH Crawford Lodge is located on the site of the QEII Medical Centre and is run by the Cancer Foundation of Western Australia.

The lodge provides accommodation for cancer patients, and their families, who normally reside in the country but have to stay in Perth to receive cancer treatment.

Emergencies

All members of staff are trained in emergency procedures such as in the event of a fire. In an emergency, staff will take whatever action is necessary, and will tell you what to do.

Internet Access

Internet access can be arranged for personal laptop computers. Consult Hospital Television Rentals (HTR) on 61 8 9346 2666.

Laundry

If possible, please make private arrangements for laundering personal clothing. Limited laundry facilities are available, if needed. Please do not put any personal items in the hospital laundry bags. A patient laundry is located on the 6th floor of G Block.

Meals

A menu will be delivered to you each day, so you can choose from the selection available. If it is necessary to have a special diet, a dietitian will visit you. If you have any concerns in relation to meals, please discuss them with the Menu Assistant.

Mail

Mail is delivered daily to the wards. Letters to patients should be addressed clearly with the patient’s given name, surname and ward.

Newspapers

Papers are delivered daily to the wards for purchase. There is also a newsagency located in the Pharmacy, ground floor of E Block.

Pharmacy Services

Hospital prescriptions are dispensed by the Outpatient Pharmacy, located in the Outpatient Department, Ground Floor, E Block.

It is open from 8.30am to 5.00pm, Monday to Thursday.

It is closed on Fridays, weekends and public holidays.

There is also a private pharmacy in the hospital in the commercial area on the ground Floor, E Block.

Radios

Bedside radio sets are provided. If you have your own transistor radio, please use an earphone.

Television

Most wards have a television sitting room. All TV sets, including those with teletext, can be hired from a private company called HTR. Contact the on-site representative from HTR on 61 8 9346 2666. Please ensure your set does not disturb neighbouring patients.

* Please note that the television, telephone and radio hire services are provided for the convenience of our patients by an external company and are therefore not directly under the management of Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

Library and Trolley Service

The Women’s Auxiliary provides a book and magazine lending service. The Auxiliary also has a daily trolley service offering sweets and toiletries for sale.

Telephones

Coin and card operated telephones are located in public areas at the end of each ward. Private telephones are available for hire. These phone lines can be used to connect laptop computers to the Internet. Contact HTR on 61 8 9346 2666 for details.

The use of mobile phones is restricted to public areas only. Please check with the Clinical Nurse Specialist on the ward if you need to use a mobile phone.

Valuables

Bedside lockers are provided for patients to store personal belongings. Please do not bring jewellery, valuables, or large amounts of money. You will need to bring money if you would like to hire a TV, which costs about $7 a day.

The hospital will not accept liability for the loss of any property kept at the bedside. If you have items of value with you, please ask your nurse to arrange for them to be held by our Property Officer. A receipt will be issued.
