Voluntary Groups

Volunteer groups within the hospital include the Women’s Auxiliary, Gairdner Voluntary Group, Voluntary Transport Service, and Patient Support Voluntary Group.

The main role of the Gairdner Voluntary Group is providing a way finding/receptionist/information service to patients and visitors in E Block. They work 4 days a week when the Outpatient Department is open. GVG members also visit patients – arrange and refresh flowers, read to patients, do shopping, provide support to patients in the Breast Assessment Centre, and operate a tea trolley in the Outpatient department, where they collect donations for the beverages served. If you are interested in joining the Group, please call at the GVG office at the Hospital Avenue entrance of E Block.

The Women’s Auxiliary has raised about $2 million since their inception twenty years ago and these funds are used to purchase hospital equipment. The Women’s Auxiliary raise funds from the profits from their two retail outlets and a mobile “lolly trolley”. They also provide books to patients on a mobile library trolley. If you are interested in joining the Group, please call at the Women’s Auxilliary shop at the main entrance in G Block.

The Voluntary Transport Services comprises about 50 to 60 volunteers, and provide volunteer drivers who supplement the Hospital drivers who drive hospital vehicles around the metropolitan area, collecting patients from their homes to attend outpatient appointments. VTS volunteers also drive the BankWest Buggy, which operates Monday through Friday around the hospital site providing transport for patients/visitors from the car parks to various hospital buildings. If you are interested in joining the Group, please leave a message for Roy Dewar at the Patient Support Office, SCGH - phone 61 8 9346 3855.

The Patient Support Voluntary Group consists of a small group of volunteers who assist with way-finding at the G Block main entrance. They also find wheelchairs for patients and the public to use and assist them to their destination if required. If you are interested in joining the Group, please leave a message for Roy Dewar at the Patient Support Office, SCGH - phone 61 8 9346 3855.
