Charlies Alumni Inc.
Charlies Alumni was established in 2002 and incorporated the following year.
The main aims of the association are:
- to provide opportunities for those who have been associated with the hospital to stay in touch with former colleagues and friends;
- to keep alumni informed about what is happening in the hospital;
- to be a vehicle for efforts to preserve the hospital’s history (written, photographic and oral);
- to support selected hospital activities.
A current major project is the preparation of a History of the Hospital being written by Dr Ken Spillman. This is due to be published in August 2008, the hospital’s 50th anniversary. A programme for the recording of oral histories is also underway.
The hospital’s archives have been reorganised by Marian Mackay and a small goup of alumni to make the content accessible. The collection is now appropriately housed in the ground floor of former Anstey House and Open Days are regularly held (see Newsletters for details). Contributions of items of possible historic interest of whatever type are welcomed.
There is an annual Oration (in April) and the alumni part-sponsor the Commencement Oration at the beginning of the clinical academic year. A newsletter is published three or four times each year, and various functions arranged. See Calendar for more detail. The partners of members are welcome to all functions.
At present those eligible to become members are:
-
former staff members and volunteers with three or more years of service;
-
current staff members and volunteers with ten or more years of service;
-
any others at the discretion of the committee of management.
The term "staff members and volunteers" includes paid staff, honorary staff, former Board members, academic staff working at SCGH and students paid by SCGH. If you would like to join please complete a membership application form.
So, spread the word to former colleagues you are still in touch with. You may register your interest in being informed of Alumni matters by contacting either Sue Morey - phone on 9346 3333 (office hours – ask for her to be paged) or Betty Whiley – phone 9346 3045.
