Postgraduate Medical Education

Services We Offer

The Department of Postgraduate Medical Education supports training and offers careers advice for doctors at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, particularly those in the first few years after graduation.

Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital is one of the three major teaching hospitals in Perth, Western Australia. Education opportunities offered to clinical staff cover pre-vocational, speciality and sub-speciality training and continuing medical education.

The Department of Postgraduate Medical Education has strong ties with the hospital’s clinical departments who undertake most of the clinical training. There is also a strong working relationship with the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of UWA. Major University clinical and research disciplines are housed at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

Speciality training (basic and advanced) is available in most clinical areas - excluding paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology - and further information can be found at web sites or from speciality college web sites.

There are regular and wide ranging clinical educational meetings in the relevant clinical departments at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and presentations throughout the week including speciality foci in clinical and research areas. Titles and speakers of meetings are announced in the Postgraduate Bulletin, which is produced monthly.

For information regarding registration for doctors who graduate outside Australia, please refer to the Medical Board. Information on specialist training is best sought from the Speciality College’s individual website.
