About Us

As part of the restructuring of the Hospital’s clinical services, the Emergency, Acute Medical & Skeletal Clinical Service Unit was established in October 1995 and represents a diverse collection of medical and surgical specialties.

Emergency, Acute Medical & Skeletal Clinical Service Unit (EAMS CSU) supports the mission of Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and is committed to providing the highest quality patient care. This commitment is realised with a patient-focused, cost effective, multi-disciplinary approach providing the highest standards in treatment, teaching and research.

The clinical departments that make up the CSU include the Acute Assessment Unit, the Emergency Department, General Medicine (including Microbiology and Infectious Diseases), Home Link, Orthopaedics and Rheumatology. The CSU is also responsible for a medical ward at Osborne Park Hospital.

The CSU prides itself on its major role in the education and training of all health professionals and has a close association with the various tertiary institutions in Perth. Our high calibre of staff and commitment to continuous quality improvement equips the CSU well to provide training for health care workers and to assist in the development of education programs.

The CSU has a relatively large bed base ranging from 148 in the summer to 160 beds in the peak winter months. The CSU, both through the Emergency Department and its clinical departments, provide emergency and elective treatment at a tertiary level on a 24 hour basis.
