The objective of bed management services is to provide a timely and appropriate bed allocation for all patients, both elective and emergency, within the health service. This service is led by the Nurse Director, and the Nurse Manager and works closely with the Inpatient booking team, clinical services and the Emergency Department.

This role provides a single point of contact for the coordination of relief staffing and agency nurse use. Planning of relief staffing relies on liaison and communication between area based and after hours Nurse Managers and the use of computerised systems, which are also used to analyse trends in staffing. The Nurse Manager for Recruitment and Retention provides a single point of contact for both independent applicants and recruitment agency’s for entry level nursing positions. The position also coordinates the recruitment and selection for the Enrolled Nurse Graduate Program, Acute Care Clinical Development Program and the Refresher Programs for Registered and Enrolled Nurses.

An important part of the role is to promote Nursing opportunities at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital; this is achieved by ensuring our presence at Western Australia’s Nursing Expos.
