Services We Offer
The Department provides a wide range of diagnostic and interventional treatment services, including Transthoracic Echocardiography/Doppler, Transoesphageal Echocardiography, Holter Monitoring, Event Monitoring, BP monitoring, Exercise Stress Testing, Tilt Table Testing, Cardiac Catheterisation, Coronary Angioplasty, Electrophysiology Studies, Arrhythmia Ablation, Valvuloplasty, ASD/PFO percutaneous device closure, and insertion of Pacemakers and Defibrillators. The service is closely integrated with Cardiothoracic Surgery for the treatment of severe heart disease.

About Us
The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine is one of Australia's major regional centres for the advanced management of acute and chronic heart disease, including acute coronary syndromes, rhythm disturbances, valvular heart disease and heart failure. The Department consists of a 14-bed Coronary Care Unit, a 24-bed subacute Cardiac Care Ward (incorporating Vascular Surgery) and 3 Cardiovascular Invasive Laboratories.
Cardiac Rehabilitation & Heart Failure
The Cardiac Rehabilitation & Heart Failure Team assists with coordinated multi-disciplinary rehabilitation of patients. Individualised rehabilitation along with education, stress management and exercise sessions are offered as part of the service. As part of the team, the Heart Failure Service also offers education, treatment, exercise rehabilitation, support and counselling to Heart Failure patients.
Pacemaker Services
The Pacemaker Service includes implantation and follow-up care of implantable devices used for the treatment of arrhythmia’s and heart failure. The Pacemaker Service conducts clinics within the Department as well as regional centres.
Clinical Trials in progress
The department is very active in clinical trials and other cardiovascular medicine research through the Gairdner Campus of the WA Heart Research Institute and the University of Western Australia School’s of Medicine and Population Health.
