Become a valued volunteer

Over 300 people volunteer their time to assist patients, visitors and staff at SCGH.  If you have time to spare, why not consider becoming one of our valued volunteers.

The SCGH Auxiliary, just one of our voluntary groups, has raised over $3.2m for the Hospital over the past 40 years through fundraising and income generated from its onsite convenience stores.

The Gairdner Volunteer Group (GVG) does different jobs in many parts of the hospital. They are as follows;

  • on the information desk in E block outpatients,
  • taking a tea and coffee trolley through the out patient clinics twice a day,
  • helping with patients in the Transit lounge,
  • helping in the breast cancer clinic,
  • and doing various jobs for the nursing staff.

You can contact the GVG by phoning (08) 9346 5384 on Wednesdays and asking for Kelly Andrews.

The Transport department is a separate group who operate the Chariot which takes patients to the various parts of the hospital and you can contact then by phoning (08) 9346 3333 and asking to speak to Chris in the Transport office.

There is also the Auxiliary which operates the shop, has a lolly trolley which goes round the wards and also a library trolley.  Phone (08) 9346 3333 and ask to speak to Julie in the Auxiliary department

The SolarisCare Centre provides alternative therapies for cancer patients (massage, art etc) so if you have any skills in that area you could try Solaris. Phone (08) 9346 3333 and ask for Glenn at SolarisCare.

Most volunteers get a great deal of pleasure out of helping the public, and none of the jobs require a great deal of skill but do require a commitment to a weekly  attendance.

You will need to fill out some forms and have a police clearance (which will be provided by the hospital) to work as a volunteer.
