All human clinical trials undertaken at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Osborne Park Hospital require approval before they can proceed.

Each trial undergoes careful scrutiny to ensure the safety of patients and researchers.  We have a stringent three-tier process for approving trials:

  • All trials are reviewed and assessed by one of two scientific committees - our Clinical Drug Trials Committee reviews all clinical drug trials while our Scientific Review Sub-Committee reviews all non-drug trials
  • These committees make recommendations to our Human Research Ethics Committee on whether approval should be granted for each trial
  • Each trial is evaluated by our Research Governance Unit to minimise risk and ensure safety.

Our processes adhere to the highest national research standards as set out by the National Health and Medical Research Council.
