Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital’s Nursing Observations and Specials Unit (NOSA) has celebrated its first birthday.

The unit officially opened on August 1 2011.

NOSA is staffed by about 30 Specialist Nurses and Doctors and is located near the established Intensive Care Unit.

Clinical Nurse Specialist Helen Shale said the last year had been a rollercoaster for staff.

“The unit has proven a great success. We are so excited that the unit has celebrated its birthday. It’s hard to believe a years has gone by already!”

Ms Shale said the unit offers the highest level of care to a vast array of patients with very complex medical needs.

“We have literally seen hundreds of patients in the last year, each with a different set of medical problems. We are so happy to have these modern facilities in which to offer them the best care possible.”

Staff celebrated the birthday with an afternoon tea including a special cake made by Registered Nurse Jemma Humann.
