The SolarisCare Cancer Support Centre is a purpose built drop-in centre offering support to all cancer patients and their carers in Western Australia. It is at the forefront of integrating touch based complementary therapies into mainstream healthcare in both public and private hospitals (SJOG).
SolarisCare provides a range of information to the public and patients including information on short term accommodation for those receiving treatment, a wide range of pamphlets on various cancers and support networks, and links to national and international web sites. SolarisCare is building a strong research base and has collaborative links with Curtin University, Edith Cowan University and the University of Western Australia. SolarisCare is presently collaborating with ECU with research addressing Quality Of Life Outcomes and Symptom Control for cancer patients.
The Centre also provides a ‘listening ear’ and access to professional complementary integrated therapies that do not conflict with mainstream treatments. The services are provided through its volunteer program.
