 SCGH Social Work services brochure

  • Social Work and welfare assistance services are available to all hospital inpatients and current outpatients.
  • Referrals are accepted from patients, families/significant others, multidisciplinary team members, community agencies and general practitioners.
  • The Social Work department is open from Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5.00pm.
  • A limited weekend and public holiday Social Work service is available for those patients attending the Emergency Department and Acute Assessment Unit Inpatients.
  • Limited on-site accommodation is available to outpatients from the country and country relatives of inpatients.  For Bookings, contact the Welfare Officer on 6457 4666.
  • The hospital provides an interpreter service for patients admitted to the hospital, when required.

Self Harm and Crisis (SHACC)

Self-Harm and Crisis Counselling (SHACC) SHACC provides outpatient follow-up to patients who present to SCGH with deliberate self-harm or are at risk of DSH.  Patients have access to counselling sessions for up to 3 months.  Issues that can be addressed include;

  • Adjustment
  • Relationships
  • Grief and substance abuse
