The Neurological Intervention & Imaging Service of WA provides:
State service for intracranial aneurysm assessment and endovascular treatment
Specialist expertise in tertiary and quaternary level neurological imaging and diagnosis for brain, head and neck and spinal disease
- Emergency neurovascular intervention service
- Elective service for image guided diagnosis and endovascular treatment of carotid stenosis, stroke and intra cranial aneurysms
- Outpatient consultation with neuro-interventionalists for neurovascular diseases
- Liaison and consultative service to the hospital’s departments
- Supervision and teaching to medical registrars, fellowships and residents
- NIISWA is a cross campus service SCGH, RPH and PMH
- Provides full range of percutaneous spinal procedures including biopsy, lumbar punctures, facet and nerve root sleeve injections, epidural injections and myelography
- Provides full range of percutaneous head and neck procedures including complex biopsy
- Provides advanced neuro imaging including MR Functional, MR Spectroscopy, DTI, MR Perfusion, CT Angiography and CT Perfusion
- Provides a comprehensive transcranial doppler service
The Neurological Intervention & Imaging Service of WA (NIISWA) also provides a 24 hour emergency on call service. Access for discussion is initially through switchboard and they will put you through to the on call Fellow/Registrar.

Outpatient Referrals
It is recommended that a referral from a consultant be the first point of contact. The patient will then be triaged according to urgency and a letter sent for a consultation with a Neuro Interventionalist.
